Church at Home – Sunday 18 October 2020

Here is this morning’s recording of our Sunday Worship for our Swithland & Mountsorrel Church at Home congregation. The service is led by Mr Edmund Stacey and the preacher is Revd Darren Walker. The hymns sung during our worship have been omitted from the recording because of copyright issues. Nevertheless, we hope you enjoy worshipping with us in this way.

St Leonard’s Church – Annual Meeting

Congratulations to Sally Allen who was elected as Churchwarden at Tuesday evening’s Annual Meeting. Revd Colin said, “Sally has served as churchwarden for a number of years and I am delighted that she has agreed to continue in this role and has the support of Swithland parishioners.” There is still one vacancy for Churchwarden and anyone interested should, in the first instance, have a conversation with either Sallly or Colin to find out more.

On the same evening, Mrs Val Capewell and Mr Jeff Harrison were elected as members of the Parochial Church Council (PCC) to serve for three years. Mrs Mary Toone and Mrs Laura Wareing left the PCC, their terms of office coming to an end. There is one vacancy on the PCC at this time, and anyone interested in becoming a member should speak with Revd Colin.

Other appointments made on the evening include:

  • Mr Martin Greenwood, Vice Chairman
  • Mrs Penny Craven, PCC Secretary
  • Mrs Val Capewell, PCC Treasurer
  • Mrs Ali Wright, Safeguarding Officer for children
  • Mrs Chris Wattts, Safeguarding Officer for vulnerable adults

Thanks were expressed to all who had maintained the life and ministry of St Leonard’s Church throughout 2019 and into this turbulent year; and prayers were offered for the future work and ministry of the parish. Copies of the annual report are still available on this website and in the Church porch.

Harvest Scarecrow Trail

Swithland St Leonard’s CE Primary School have organised a Scarecrow Trail for Harvest. You can join in by printing off the trail leaflet and looking to see if you can find all of the scarecrows hidden around the village. The scarecrows will be on display from Monday 12th October to Sunday 25th October. The theme of the scarecrow trail is ‘People who help us’ reflecting on those key workers that have kept us going throughout the Coronavirus lockdown.

An opportunity to hear from God

Bishop Martyn and Bishop Guli have called the Diocese of Leicester to prayer as part of the Shaped By God Together process. But how do we listen to God and hear what the Spirit is saying to the Church?

On 5 November, 10am to 4pm, join David Newman and Chris Webb for a day of teaching and experience at Launde Abbey as we explore together how to listen to God. There will be biblical reflections and teaching about prayer and about how we can hear God’s voice today. There will also be time and space to experience silence and listening, and an opportunity to share our experiences with one another. And all this in the surroundings of Launde: the beautiful buildings; the glorious countryside; and the warm hospitality of the Abbey.
