Monday Club
This new group follows the recent merging of the Swithland Church Women’s Group
and the Church Men’s Club and is open to all..
As previously, meetings during the winter months will be held in Swithland Memorial Hall on
the first Monday in each month beginning in October, with an interesting line up of
speakers.
Meetings will start at 7.30pm with our speaker for that month talking for about 45
minutes, followed by time to socialise and enjoy refreshments.
For further information please contact Val Capewell by sending her an email.
HERE IS THE PROGRAMME SO FAR:
7th October 2024 – We are welcoming Kim Turner and a representative
from the wildlife trust to give a talk about ‘The Corridor Club’. Charnwood Forest is
a unique ancient landscape containing woodland, grassland and heathland and the
idea behind The Corridor Club is to join together these core areas as wildlife
corridors. Much interesting work is underway and this promises to be a most
interesting talk.
4th November -This brings us a speaker from the University of Leicester Archaeological
Services – Mathew Morris will be giving a talk entitled Leicester Cathedral
Revealed. The construction of Leicester Cathedral’s new heritage learning centre
has revealed a fascinating snapshot of life in Leicester over 2000 years.
1st December at 9.30am – Monday Club Gift service. Throughout the year our church members are encouraged to donate food gifts for the Soar Valley Food Project which helps both families and individuals who find themselves on hard times and are struggling to feed themselves and their families. At this service we are again encouraged to donate items with a particularly emphasis on seasonal food items
